AN AMBIENCE OF COPPERWORK
Beautiful Myra
Myrabelle ('Beautiful Myra'- pronounced "Mee-Rah")-
that is the name of this eating and drinking café on
the corner of the Vijzelgracht and the Prinsengracht.
It is an brown café with golden blond beer. A café
where you can eat and drink, in the copperwork ambience and brown café
atmosphere, at your leisure either at the genuine oak bar or table.
The bar is named Myrabelle after Myra,
the wife of the first owner, who chose the name to show his love for his
wife.
The bar lies in the heart of Amsterdam
The happy drinker
Myrabelle is housed in a little canal house that originally dates back to
1694. The house is now a protected monument (listed building), since 1957. In 1970 the house
was restored to it's original seventeenth century appearance. The outside
wall once again displays the famous memorial stone "Int Root
Scaep"in memory of Mr. Schaap, the gentleman who, with his complete
heart and soul, put everything into fully restoring the house. Inside, behind
the polished lacquered bar, painted on the wall is a mural of the street
scene around the Myrabelle; in the back of the café a picture of a happy
drinker.
The good, honest kitchen
As well as serving foaming Heineken beers, freshly made cocktails, wines,
spirits and liquors of Netherlands and foreign origin, Myrabelle also has a
good, honest kitchen situated in the basement where the most wonderful dishes
are prepared; succulent entrecotes (daily) fresh Sole and freshly prepared
salads. The dishes are served to the café via the hand operated dump waiter
behind the bar.
Tradition and enjoyment
Myrabelle has enjoyed three centuries of "Amsterdamse
gezelligheid", because in this canal corner house, across the street
from what used to be the Waalse orphanage, Myrabelle was also once a
drinking/meeting bar where Amsterdammers used to celebrate the good life with
a full glass of beer and share life's wisdom with each other.
A good café is always on a corner, luckily for us, these times of enjoyment
remain the same. Eat and drink café Myrabelle is good, honest and unique.
